AMERICAN BLACK FILM FESTIVAL
The American Black Film Festival (ABBF) kicked off this year’s festivities in the New World Center’s performance hall with the film premier of SHAFT, featuring Samuel L. Jackson.

The ABFF presented 4 days of screenings, competitions and conversations at the New World Center for the 3rd year in a row. BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF MIAMI, CLASS OF 2019 GRADUATION
Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami held their annual graduation ceremony and reception at the new World center for the second year in a row. Miami Beach Mayor, Dan Gelber, and former Miami Heat forward, Shane Battier, were among the VIP guests who gathered to celebrate the success of 150 hard working graduates. Over $1 million in scholarships were awarded.

SOCIAL AFFECTIVE NEUROSCIENCE SOCIETY CONFERENCE
This meeting of great minds took place over 3 days at the New World Center. Over 500 scholars committed to the research and investigation of the neural basis of social and affective processes gathered for thought-provoking symposiums in the performance hall and daily presentations in the SunTrust Pavilion and Atrium. A keynote address was delivered by renowned primatologist, Frans de Waal.

POETRY FOUNDATION - MIAMI SUMMER POETRY TEACHERS INSTITUTE
Academic preparation for the upcoming school year for some of Miami Dade’s teachers included this 5 day event that included seminars and workshops with renowned contemporary poets. Poets and expert teachers discussed poetry lesson plans for the 2019/2020 language arts curriculum.
Miami-Dade County school teachers are welcomed to the New World Center by Howard Herring, President and CEO of NWS.
The Institute’s project fair is a great opportunity for Miami-Dade County school teachers to learn from each other.
