Jimmy Cefalo and Brenda Basset’s show, Eat This Drink That Go, is in its fifth year and is dedicated to spreading information about great food, wine, spirits and travel. The televised version of the show can be viewed on the Beach Channel, and it’s available as a radio show on iHeartRadio and WIOD610 AM from 8-10 A.M every Saturday morning.
Jimmy Cefalo has been emcee at the Holy Cross Hospital’s Epicurean Escapades Gala for a few years now, so we enjoyed chatting with Jimmy and Brenda about culinary trends, Indian Cuisine, and the logistics of catering and producing the Holy Cross Gala for the 4th year running.
Chef Anthoni Doss Ramesh and Chef Michael Finizia styled a beautiful set featuring our Aloo Tikki Chaat, Samosas, Chicken Tandoori Skewers, Channa Masala, and a colorful, aromatic display of some of the key ingredients in these dishes.
Anthoni Ramesh, who is from Southern India, discussed ingredients, and Chef Michael Finizia introduced our Bollywood Cocktail, a mix of Indian tea, vodka, Schnapps, lime juice and a ginger foam, the perfect beverage to pair with the exotic flavors of Indian cuisine.
David noted that Indian Cuisine is increasingly popular because it's healthy, colorful, flavorful, gluten free, and offers delicious vegetarian options. A lavish "Taste of India" Station was part of the Holy Cross Gala's menu, along with "Tastes of Italy," "Tastes of Spain," and "Tastes of China and Japan." As the theme of the gala indicates, "Epicurean Escapades, a Food & Wine Experience," guests were immersed in a feast of authnetic cuisine and flavors from around the world. Carefully selected wines to pair with each culinary experience were offered at each station.

Over 350 guests gathered at the DCOTA (Design Center of the Americas) in Dania Beach to celebrate the legacy of local businessman, Phil Smith, who contributed to advancing neuroscience healthcare services in South Florida, but recently passed away from ALS.
This year's gala raised $235,000 for the Phil Smith ALS and Movement Disorders Clinic at the Phil Smith Neuroscience institute at Holy Cross Hospital.
Production, decor and catering were provided by Thierry Isambert Culinary and Event Design, with an extensive menu featuring food stations offering tastes from around the world. There was Paella Valenciana and tapas from Spain, paired with Quintanal Verdejo, a medium bodied white wine with hints of fennel and pear notes; Asian stir fry and dim sum prepared in bamboo steamers, paired with Sapporo, Japan's oldest beer brand, and Tozai Snow Maiden saké; antipasti, rigatoni bolognese, and seared potato gnocchi with a trio of mushrooms paired with Villa Antinori Bianco and Castello Banfi's Belnero Proprietor's Reserve, a Tuscan wine from the southern hills of Montalcino, Italy; and Indian tandoori ovens and chaat stations featuring samosa, beef boti, chicken tiki masala and paneer naan paired with an Indian Pale Ale.
