February 24th, - In the midst of the SOBEWFF, top chefs from around the country gathered poolside at one of Miami’s most iconic venues, Casa Casuarina (previously Gianni Versace's residence,) for a sun-kissed afternoon of food and music.
James Beard-nominated chef, JJ Johnson, along with Leah Cohen (Pig and Khao NYC,) Cesar Zapata (Phuc Yea,) Timon Balloo (Sugarcane,) Katie Button (Curate & Nightbell - Ashville,) Ryo Kato (Myumi,) Lynette Marrero (Llama Inn, NYC,) Chef John Lasater (Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, Nashville,) and desserts by Dana Iannelli (Wicked Whisk.)
Smirnoff crafted cocktails to pair with each dish, resulting in ultimate summer barbecue combinations. Chef JJ’s Barbecued Oxtail Sliders were served with a chilled and crafted blend of Smirnoff, with ginger syrup, lemon juice, whiskey bitters, and a red wine float.
Thierry Isambert Culinary & Event Design produced the event, and in addition to creating the fresh juices and elixirs for the cocktails, provided food production for the chefs from out of town.
The opulent setting, reminiscent of the days Gianni Versace entertained celebrities by the Million Mosaic pool, was the perfect venue for a laid-back South Beach barbecue featuring gourmet fare from some of our favorite dining spots.
