The Rise of the “Crypto” Party / by Alina Isambert

$40 million yachts, “crypto discos”, and more — Miami’s buzzed about crypto-invasion not only makes room for a whole new industry, but also events to suit their party-going needs.

For better or worse, Miami is a city that often finds itself making headline news. In recent times, the buzz has been positive thanks to a visionary set of mayors, one of which made it his mission to lure Silicon Valley-giants to our sunny shores. In the “tweet heard around the world”, City Mayor Francis Suarez (recently inducted at the president of the US Mayors Conference) sent out a brief but powerful “How can I help?” as a response to another user’s quip about turning Miami into tech hub. The rest, as they say, is history. Just over a year later, a flurry of tech-world heavyweights and the companies they lead and, in many cases, founded — from internet juggernauts and startups to a wave of crypto-currency and NFT-selling platforms — have set up shop in the 305, with numbers of industry insiders relocating going up by the day.

And when in Miami, one must do as Miamians — party like nowhere else in the world.

VIPs FOR THE MODERN AGE

A recent article in Business Insider illustrated the wild antics and lavishness of NFT company-sponsored events during Miami Art Week in December. Tales of parties (dubbed “crypto discos) on 222-ft $40 million-yachts and “a floating jumble of open bars, swaying bodies, and funky, '70s disco tracks” made many in the event industry listen up and take notice of this new demographic, whose members relish good food, a flow of top-shelf liquor and wow-worthy details that are not only Instagram-friendly, but unlike anything that has been seen before.

One such person is Rodney Burton, better known as “Bitcoin” Rodney to the many people he mentors in leveraging crypto to improve their portfolios and elevate their lifestyles for the better. Thierry’s recently catered an intimate gathering for Burton, who hosts happenings of all sizes; many taking place on— what else? — extravagant mega-yachts. Dishes served included an array of favorites from our passed appetizer menu, including mini wagyu burgers, Asian chicken skewers and our famous tuna tartare cones, which are as delicious as they are extraordinary to look at, always creating a sense of curiosity among those who see them, much like the “Bitcoin bosses” making a home and organizing the hottest events, in our very own city.
