CREATIVE CUISINE FOR EVENTS: CULINARY TROMPE L'OEUIL / by Eric Monteiro

“Deceive the eye,” that’s the English translation for the French term, “Trompe L’Oeil,” an expression coined in the 19th century to describe a type of painting where objects depicted look so real as to fool viewers into thinking they’re looking at the real thing.

Applied to cuisine, the art of Trompe L’oeil means a creative take on how food is presented and experienced. There are so many ways for creative menus and food items to enhance the theme of any event. Our customers are typically well-travelled, well-read and have sophisticated tastes with high expectations for the dining experience they want to offer their guests; presenting diners with a potted plant for dessert, that is actually an edible flower in a chocolate mousse and cookie crumble,  or a side of river rocks that are really potatoes, surprises and delights them, leaving guests talking about your event for years to come, and that’s always a good thing!

Catering South Florida events sometimes calls for delicious comfort food and familiar favorites, but occasionally you can go out on a limb with fantastic catering menus that excite the imagination and reflect branding for a corporate event or personal details for private social functions or weddings.

Our potted plant desserts have delighted diners at Spring-themed social luncheons or luxurious dinners under the stars at some of Miami’s exquisite botanical gardens. Thierry Isambert’s event coordinators are experienced at creating custom menus that take South Florida event catering to the next level with artful culinary creations you’d expect to find in upscale restaurants.

Sometimes stones can be potatoes, mushrooms can be meringues and a potted plant is not what you’d expect!
