THE VIZCAYA CENTENNIAL PRESERVATION LUNCHEON | FASHIONABLE PHILANTHROPISTS UNITE TO SUPPORT A NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK / by Eric Monteiro

Every year, 300 of South Florida’s most fashionable denizens gather for the Vizcaya Centennial Preservation Luncheon, also known as the Hat Luncheon due to the colorful array of stylish hats worn by guests for the annual hat contest.

Beverages from Dall’Armellina vineyards were offered at the pre-lunch cocktail reception in the courtyard of the main house. Models showed off Spring fashions from Neiman Marcus and everyone had the opportunity to bid in the silent auction featuring a luxury 12 day European cruise from Celebrity Cruises.

Thierry Isambert Culinary and Event Design’s menu included a starter of English Pea Velvet with Sous Vide Leek, followed by a Branzino a la Plancha, and a delectable spread of Petit Fours.

All funds raised by the luncheon, founded in 2009, go towards the preservation of the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens . As Vizcaya enters its centennial year, new plans have been launched which outline the restoration of the original Vizcaya Village. Built next to the original estate in 1916, the Vizcaya Village made the estate self-sufficient and included dozens of buildings. The restoration project will result in Vizcaya as a community resource through innovative educational programming for locals and visitors.
